Honor Guard
Since its inception in 1995 The City of Riverside Fire Department/Local 1067 Honor Guard, wholly and as individual members, functions as ambassadors for the Riverside City Firefighters Local 1067, the Riverside City Fire Department, and the citizens of the City of Riverside.
The Guard presents the colors of the Nation, State of California, City of Riverside, Fire Department, and Local Union at many events held in the City, the State, and the Nation. During the course of the year, they present the colors for events such as promotion and award ceremonies, the Local’s annual retirement dinner, and various fire department and other community related meetings in the region.
Each year, the Honor Guard participates in the multi-agency honor guard which presents the colors for the annual memorial services held for firefighters who were killed in the line-of-duty from the previous year. There are three primary events, the International Association of Firefighters Memorial Services in Colorado Springs, the California Firefighters Memorial Services held in Sacramento, and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Services held in Washington D.C. As part of these events, some members of the Guard not only participate in the services but also perform important leadership roles acting as facilitators for the various events held leading up to and as part of the service such as the Walk of Honor, Wreath Ceremonies, Candlelight Vigil, and the Flag Ceremony.
The City of Riverside Fire Department/Local 1067 Honor Guard has been continually recognized for their outstanding efforts, their distinctive uniforms and their outstanding performances adding to the quality of many events. The pride and honor of being on the Guard is apparent, showcased by the professionalism and dedication of each of its members.
The Honor Guard is under the direction Commander and Bugler Thomas Jay. It consists of 18 members participating in approximately 20 events a year and is strictly a volunteer organization.
